Job Overview
- The Home Depot is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join its virtual engineering team in a fully remote capacity. This position plays a pivotal role in designing, building, and deploying customer-facing and associate-focused software applications. Working in a collaborative environment alongside engineers of varying experience levels, the role combines hands-on feature delivery with technical leadership, mentorship, and system architecture planning.
- Engineers in this role contribute directly to core code elements, architectural diagrams, and system configurations while ensuring high resilience, security, and performance across production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- ➤ Build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable production software while understanding business value and end-user requirements.
- ➤ Develop comprehensive functional, unit, performance, and destructive test suites to facilitate rapid and reliable code deployment.
- ➤ Partner with product teams during agile planning to ensure user stories are clear, testable, and ready for development.
- ➤ Guide and mentor junior software engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and exposure to modern development frameworks.
- ➤ Field technical inquiries from product and engineering teams while identifying team workflow gaps and recommending improvements.
- ➤ Participate in software tool selection, configuration, security hardening, resilience planning, and production system monitoring.
- ➤ Author architectural documentation, system design diagrams, and reusable foundational code components across product lines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ➤ Minimum age of 18 years or older with legal authorization to work in the United States.
- ➤ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field of study (or equivalent practical experience).
- ➤ At least 3 years of professional work experience in software development and engineering roles.
- ➤ Hands-on proficiency with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
- ➤ Practical expertise in an object-oriented programming language, with a strong preference for Java.
- ➤ Working knowledge of relational or NoSQL database management and effective data modeling techniques.
- ➤ Familiarity with cloud computing architectures, version control systems, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tooling.
- ➤ Exposure to system design principles focused on high availability, disaster recovery, efficiency, and application security.
