Reddit is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Data Movement team within its broader Data Platform division. Operating within a flexible, remote-first workforce in the United States, this role focuses on designing, scaling, and maintaining high-throughput ingestion and data processing infrastructure. Reddit's global network generates more than 100 billion event logs daily, feeding into a core data warehouse that executes over 55,000 daily queries. This massive data ecosystem powers real-time and batch machine learning, business intelligence, feed recommendations, ad serving, and algorithmic experimentation across the company.
In this position, engineers collaborate with partner teams to architect fault-tolerant, self-service ingestion systems using technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Airflow, and Kubernetes. The primary objective is to streamline data workflows, reduce operational toil for internal data consumers, and optimize infrastructure efficiency. This opportunity is well-suited for backend or data platform software engineers who possess strong object-oriented programming skills and are enthusiastic about managing large-scale distributed systems.

★ Architecture, refinement, and ongoing maintenance of core data infrastructure supporting machine learning and analytics across hundreds of millions of users.
★ End-to-end technical ownership of Reddit’s Data Movement Platform, powering high-volume batch and streaming data processing.
★ Engineering, deploying, and optimizing infrastructure for technologies including Apache Spark, Apache Flink, and Apache Airflow, while contributing to open-source software communities.
★ Developing automated, declarative self-service tools that simplify data operations and minimize manual engineering toil for internal data users.
★ Participating in shared on-call rotations and maintaining monitoring and alerting frameworks to ensure high availability, reduced latency, and system efficiency.

★ Minimum of 2 years of professional software engineering experience in production environments, demonstrating clean, maintainable, and well-tested code writing.
★ Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as Python, Scala, Go, or Java.
★ Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and monitoring large-scale distributed systems, combined with proactive project leadership skills.
★ Practical experience working with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and modern cloud-native architectures.
★ Technical experience with data orchestration and stream or batch processing technologies, including Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, or Apache Flink.
★ Strong communication and collaboration skills suitable for working within service-oriented teams and cross-functional organizational environments.

★ In select positions and geographic locations, interviews may be recorded, transcribed, and summarized using automated systems.

★ Annual base salary between $164,200 and $229,900 USD, alongside equity grants in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs) and potential commission eligibility based on role level.
