Job Overview

  • Figma is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in C++ to contribute to its real-time collaborative design platform. In this full-time position based in US hubs or available as remote work within the United States, you will work on technically challenging client-side architecture. The role centers around building high-performance browser systems utilizing C++, WebAssembly, and TypeScript while advancing the multiplayer protocols and scene graph data structures that power real-time multi-user editing.
  • Engineers in this role collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to implement fast, accessible, and intuitive authoring tools. This opportunity is well suited for experienced developers who thrive at the intersection of low-level performance engineering, browser infrastructure, and user-facing creative tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • ▻ Develop core user-facing capabilities and frontend infrastructure for real-time multiplayer systems using complex in-memory data models.
  • ▻ Enhance browser rendering performance and optimize memory utilization by leveraging C++, WebAssembly, and TypeScript.
  • ▻ Extend underlying C++ platform engines and collaboration protocols to support scalable design workflows, branching, and merging functionality.
  • ▻ Build intuitive APIs and technical abstractions that empower internal product engineering teams to develop against the platform efficiently.
  • ▻ Contribute to the platform's overall accessibility architecture to ensure inclusive usage across diverse user populations.
  • ▻ Partner across technical and product disciplines to architect, scope, and deliver high-impact feature releases.
  • ▻ Maintain clean codebases, author technical documentation, and participate actively in system architecture decision-making.
  • ▻ Provide technical mentorship to peer engineers through code reviews, pairing sessions, and collaborative feedback loops.
  • ▻ Support recruitment efforts and contribute positively to an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • ▻ At least 4 years of professional experience in software engineering delivering user-facing applications or core features.
  • ▻ Strong proficiency in frontend-relevant programming languages such as C++, TypeScript, React, Go, Rust, or Python.
  • ▻ Demonstrated background working with web applications, real-time collaborative protocols, or browser performance optimization.
  • ▻ Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration and delivering complex engineering initiatives across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ▻ 2 or more years of experience operating in a technical lead capacity across multiple engineering teams.
  • ▻ Prior experience working with game engines, rendering pipelines, or other performance-critical software systems.
  • ▻ Background in developer platform construction or API system design.
  • ▻ Familiarity with WebAssembly execution, browser internal mechanics, or C++ integration within frontend architectures.
  • ▻ Strong passion for creative workflows, collaborative tools, and user experience craft.
  • ▻ Dedication to ongoing professional growth, inclusive team environments, and helping colleagues succeed.

Who May Be a Good Fit for This Role?

  • This role may be suitable for candidates who possess strong low-level systems engineering fundamentals combined with a deep appreciation for frontend user experience and creative tooling. Developers who enjoy tackling complex real-time concurrency challenges, in-memory scene graph data models, and WebAssembly optimization will find significant technical depth in this position. It is an ideal fit for collaborative engineers who value clean API abstractions, excel at cross-functional communication, and take pride in mentoring peers while scaling global web infrastructure.

  • ▻ Retirement savings plans featuring company matching contributions.
  • ▻ Paid parental leave alongside reproductive and family planning support resources.
  • ▻ Dedicated mental health benefits and wellness support programs.
  • ▻ Paid time off (PTO), flexible sick leave, and company-wide recharge days.
