Job Overview
- CGI is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer for a full-time, remote position supporting major UK public sector digital transformation initiatives. In this role, you will lead the architectural design, implementation, and maintenance of secure, high-performing backend services that power vital public services utilized by millions of citizens. Working within a modern cloud-based Agile framework, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to modernize legacy infrastructure and deliver scalable solutions.
- This position is ideal for a seasoned Java developer with deep expertise in cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and DevOps practices. Successful candidates will drive technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and champion engineering excellence across project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Architect, design, and engineer secure backend applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate frameworks.
- ★ Deliver scalable, cloud-native solutions that align with business objectives and public sector user requirements.
- ★ Lead technical design discussions, influence architectural strategies, and establish software engineering standards.
- ★ Collaborate actively within Agile delivery teams during sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- ★ Build and integrate complex application components across multi-tiered technology environments.
- ★ Automate and optimize deployment pipelines using CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- ★ Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production system incidents to maintain operational resilience and reliability.
- ★ Mentor team members, share technical knowledge, and promote continuous learning and DevOps principles.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ Extensive commercial software development experience utilizing Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
- ★ Hands-on experience integrating systems with Identity and Access Management (IDAM) platforms such as ForgeRock, One Identity, Okta, Azure AD, or Auth0.
- ★ Proven track record building and managing CI/CD deployment pipelines using Jenkins.
- ★ Practical background in reverse engineering existing software and supporting legacy system integrations.
- ★ Strong command of Git version control and collaborative code review workflows.
- ★ Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively inside Agile project teams.
- ★ Proficiency with project management and documentation tools including Jira and Confluence.
- ★ Exceptional analytical, diagnostic, and technical problem-solving skills.
- ★ Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- ★ Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and services (Desirable).
- ★ Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and configuration management with Ansible (Desirable).
- ★ Knowledge of modern DevOps practices, observability tools, and system monitoring solutions (Desirable).
- ★ Exposure to front-end development technologies such as Angular (Desirable).
- ★ Prior experience working within large-scale public sector or heavily regulated industry environments (Desirable).
Security Clearance Requirements
