Job OverviewAtlassian is seeking a Product Design Intern for a 12-week paid internship program running between May/June 2027 and August/September 2027. Operating as part of Atlassian's distributed-first workforce, this position focuses on transforming complex teamwork and workflow challenges into intuitive, accessible, and connected digital experiences. Interns collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams—including product managers, software engineers, user researchers, and senior designers—to analyze customer needs, design system components, and build technical prototypes. The role emphasizes hands-on interaction and visual design, rapid prototyping, and usability evaluation across Atlassian's cloud platform, including tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Apply interaction, visual, and systems design principles to translate ambiguous customer problems into simple, accessible product experiences.
- ★ Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, researchers, and design mentors to evaluate technical constraints and validate design decisions.
- ★ Use research insights, product analytics, usability testing, and technical prototyping to test hypotheses and rapidly iterate on concepts.
- ★ Contribute to design systems, reusable UI patterns, and technical documentation across Atlassian cloud products.
- ★ Develop functional, high-quality technical prototypes using modern development utilities and AI tools.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ Current full-time enrollment in a 4-year bachelor's or 2-year master's degree program, returning to finish the degree after the internship.
- ★ Graduation date on or before June 2028.
- ★ Ability to commit to a full-time (40 hours/week), 12-week internship schedule during Summer 2027 (May/June to August/September).
- ★ Willingness and capability to work aligned with Pacific Time Zone (PT) hours.
- ★ Entry-level status with less than one year of professional experience (excluding internships and co-ops).
- ★ Eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship (not open to F1 or J1 visa holders).
- ★ Background or coursework in user-centered design, interaction design, or visual interface design (preferred).
- ★ Ability to manage project timelines and plan across multiple design initiatives simultaneously (preferred).
- ★ Experience collaborating in team environments alongside engineers, product managers, and designers (preferred).
