Job Overview

Atlassian is seeking a Product Design Intern for a 12-week paid internship program running between May/June 2027 and August/September 2027. Operating as part of Atlassian's distributed-first workforce, this position focuses on transforming complex teamwork and workflow challenges into intuitive, accessible, and connected digital experiences. Interns collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams—including product managers, software engineers, user researchers, and senior designers—to analyze customer needs, design system components, and build technical prototypes. The role emphasizes hands-on interaction and visual design, rapid prototyping, and usability evaluation across Atlassian's cloud platform, including tools such as Jira and Confluence.

★ Apply interaction, visual, and systems design principles to translate ambiguous customer problems into simple, accessible product experiences.
★ Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, researchers, and design mentors to evaluate technical constraints and validate design decisions.
★ Use research insights, product analytics, usability testing, and technical prototyping to test hypotheses and rapidly iterate on concepts.
★ Contribute to design systems, reusable UI patterns, and technical documentation across Atlassian cloud products.
★ Develop functional, high-quality technical prototypes using modern development utilities and AI tools.

★ Current full-time enrollment in a 4-year bachelor's or 2-year master's degree program, returning to finish the degree after the internship.
★ Graduation date on or before June 2028.
★ Ability to commit to a full-time (40 hours/week), 12-week internship schedule during Summer 2027 (May/June to August/September).
★ Willingness and capability to work aligned with Pacific Time Zone (PT) hours.
★ Entry-level status with less than one year of professional experience (excluding internships and co-ops).
★ Eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship (not open to F1 or J1 visa holders).
★ Background or coursework in user-centered design, interaction design, or visual interface design (preferred).
★ Ability to manage project timelines and plan across multiple design initiatives simultaneously (preferred).
★ Experience collaborating in team environments alongside engineers, product managers, and designers (preferred).

This role may be suitable for candidates who are undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in interaction design, human-computer interaction, user experience, or related fields. It aligns well with emerging designers who enjoy taking complex, multi-faceted workflow problems and turning them into clean, accessible digital interfaces. Candidates who thrive in collaborative team settings alongside engineers and product managers, adapt quickly to research feedback, and demonstrate strong systems-thinking skills will find this internship rewarding. Additionally, students comfortable working in a distributed-first environment while maintaining alignment with Pacific Time Zone hours will fit naturally into Atlassian's organizational culture.

★ Competitive hourly pay structured across geographic zones ($41/hr to $56/hr depending on location).
★ Potential eligibility for performance bonuses, equity options, commissions, and comprehensive benefit packages.
★ Structured 12-week technical design training, dedicated mentorship, and professional networking programs.
★ Health and wellbeing resources.
★ Paid volunteer days to support community engagement.
★ Flexible distributed-first work model allowing remote or office-based collaboration.

Applicants may want to highlight user-focused design projects, case studies, and interactive prototypes within their portfolio. Demonstrating a clear design process—from initial problem definition and user research to wireframing, testing, and final visual UI execution—will effectively showcase your design craft. Highlighting experience with design systems, cross-functional collaboration, or technical prototyping tools can strengthen your application. Be sure to state your degree program, expected graduation date (by June 2028), and work authorization status clearly on your resume to confirm alignment with all core program eligibility requirements.
