Job OverviewState Farm is seeking full-time undergraduate students for a 10-week paid summer internship position as a Mainframe Software Engineer within its Enterprise Technology department. Key Responsibilities

  • β˜‘ Participate in hands-on enterprise software engineering projects and research initiatives within the Enterprise Technology department.
  • β˜‘ Develop, test, and support mainframe system components and modern application integrations.
  • β˜‘ Collaborate with virtual and on-site cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex systems challenges.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • β˜‘ Current full-time undergraduate college student (Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior status) enrolled in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • β˜‘ High school diploma or GED equivalent completed prior to starting the internship.
  • β˜‘ Minimum of one academic semester remaining in degree studies following the conclusion of the Summer 2027 program.
  • β˜‘ Academic coursework, practical exposure, or project experience in any of the following: COBOL, PL/1, IMS, DB2, JCL, Autoflow, Assembler, SAS, DFSORT, AWS, or Python.
  • β˜‘ Eagerness to develop mainframe technical skills and pursue post-graduation employment with State Farm.
  • β˜‘ Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and willingness to learn new programming languages and tools.
  • β˜‘ Leadership qualities demonstrated through academic, extracurricular, or professional endeavors.
  • β˜‘ Effective oral and written communication skills suitable for virtual and in-person team collaboration.
  • β˜‘ Continuous physical residency within the continental United States for the entire duration of the internship.
  • β˜‘ Full availability to work 38.75 hours weekly from June 1, 2027, through August 11, 2027, without major schedule disruptions.
