Job Overview

  • Rivet is seeking a Full-Stack Engineering Intern to join its fully remote engineering team in the United States. Unlike traditional corporate internships that isolate students with sandbox projects, this role provides immediate integration into production systems. As a full-stack intern, you will build and maintain features end-to-end across a modern tech stack centered on Go, React, PostgreSQL, and Python microservices. You will work directly on real workflows, solving automation challenges for paper filing parsing and ledger reconciliation while communicating directly with accountants and internal users. Working closely with a dedicated mentor and senior engineers, you will design database schemas, implement API contracts, and deliver responsive user interfaces.

About Rivet

  • Rivet is an AI-native accounting firm that integrates corporate tax, personal tax, sales tax, R&D credits, and bookkeeping into a unified platform. The firm operates directly on its proprietary software platform, serving over 1,300 clients, including high-growth companies such as Cursor, Cognition, and ModRetro.
  • Team & Leadership: Co-founded by CEO Nick Abouzeid (formerly leading growth at Ramp) and Head of Tax Kyle Christenson (former IRS auditor and tax firm founder).
  • Funding: Backed by over $7 million in funding from XYZ Ventures, Susa Ventures, Haystack Ventures, and more than 40 executive investors across prominent technology companies.

What Makes This Internship Unique

  • Production Deployment: Interns ship software directly to production that impacts real users and active financial operations.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Complete responsibility from initial commit to production deployment, supported by direct mentorship.
  • User Interaction: Direct communication with internal tax professionals and accounting clients to gather feedback and refine products.
  • Focus on Growth: Hiring evaluations emphasize practical building capability and growth trajectory over traditional academic credentials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, ship, and maintain scoped feature sets end-to-end across database schemas, Go backend services, API contracts, and React interfaces.
  • Collaborate directly with assigned senior engineering mentors through pairing sessions and weekly one-on-one meetings.
  • Develop engineering solutions for complex automation challenges, including ledger reconciliation and document parsing.
  • Interact daily with accounting professionals via communication channels to collect feedback and address platform issues.
  • Communicate open technical questions proactively in public team channels to maintain steady development progress.

Technical Stack

  • Backend Architecture: Go modular monolith utilizing Connect RPC over Protocol Buffers, Go Fx, sqlc, goose, PostgreSQL, River Pro background jobs, and Watermill messaging via RabbitMQ.
  • Frontend Infrastructure: React and TanStack applications deployed on Cloudflare Workers.
  • AI & Evaluation Tools: Python repositories hosting ModelBridge (gRPC service for AI components) and TaxBench (internal evaluation framework).
  • Legacy Integration: C# Windows agent interface for Drake tax software automation.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS services (ECS Fargate, Amazon MQ, AMP, Loki, Tempo) managed via Pulumi in Go, alongside Buildkite, OpenTelemetry, Doppler, and Linear.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience developing and deploying independent software projects outside of academic coursework, such as side projects, startup ventures, or open-source tools.
  • Functional proficiency in either Go or React, accompanied by a strong willingness to master the other language.
  • Capability to navigate, comprehend, and build upon unfamiliar codebases independently without reliant step-by-step guidance.
  • Excellent written communication abilities tailored for asynchronous and remote collaboration.
  • Receptive mindset toward receiving honest, constructive feedback and implementing actionable improvements.
  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program, or an equivalent level of self-taught technical competency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience working with PostgreSQL beyond basic Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks.
  • Prior exposure to Protocol Buffers (protobuf), gRPC services, or strongly typed API client architectures.
  • Practical experience building functional applications with Large Language Models (LLMs) and a realistic understanding of their current limitations.
  • Intellectual curiosity regarding tax, financial accounting, or high-accuracy domains where precision is critical.

What the Company Offers

  • Competitive paid internship compensation.
  • Equity offering.
  • Dedicated 1-on-1 mentorship, high-impact project ownership, and direct working exposure to executive leadership.
  • Fully distributed remote work structure supplemented by bi-annual company offsite gatherings.
  • Fast-paced corporate culture with minimal management layers.
  • Direct path and honest consideration for full-time career placement post-internship.

Application Tips

  • Applicants may want to highlight personal software projects, open-source contributions, or independent builds that demonstrate their ability to ship complete products. In your resume and technical portfolio, emphasize experience working with Go, React, PostgreSQL, or API integrations. Showcasing clear written technical communication, self-directed problem-solving, or experience navigating large codebases without step-by-step tutorials can make an application stand out. Additionally, detailing any practical work with language models, microservice architectures, or domain-driven software will help showcase relevant capabilities suited for Rivet's full-stack environment.
