The engineer will contribute to the engineering, modernization, testing, and continuous maintenance of secure, large-scale enterprise web applications.
- The position spans both frontend and backend development within a collaborative environment. Key technical areas include React, Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, SQL, PostgreSQL, RESTful APIs, AWS cloud infrastructure, Git, and automated CI/CD deployment pipelines. Developers will work closely with Quality Engineers, data analysts, and cross-functional project teams to deliver new capabilities, modernize legacy backend workflows, and ensure application reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Engineer, enhance, and support secure web applications across client-side and server-side components using React, Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, and SQL frameworks.
- ★ Design, build, and maintain responsive, accessible frontend user interfaces and digital application workflows using modern JavaScript frameworks.
- ★ Construct and maintain backend microservices, REST APIs, core business logic, system integrations, and relational database interfaces.
- ★ Execute software modernization initiatives, application enhancements, system migrations, and backend service refactoring for federal client platforms.
- ★ Manage system integrations and data operations utilizing RESTful web services and relational databases to support reliable data exchange.
- ★ Partner with Quality Engineering teams to establish testing strategies, validate application performance, debug test environments, and resolve defects prior to deployment.
- ★ Investigate and resolve production application issues across user interfaces, server processes, data pipelines, and API integrations.
- ★ Participate in collaborative software development practices, including peer code reviews, automated testing, and code optimization.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ U.S. Citizenship with current residence within the United States, having resided in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- ★ Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Public Trust security clearance.
- ★ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- ★ 3 to 5 years of professional software development experience across frontend and backend technologies.
- ★ Demonstrated professional experience building frontend applications with React, Angular, or comparable modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks alongside HTML and CSS.
- ★ Proven experience developing backend services and business logic using Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, Python/Django, or an equivalent modern framework.
- ★ Hands-on experience developing, integrating, and troubleshooting RESTful APIs and working with relational database systems like PostgreSQL or MySQL using SQL.
- ★ Demonstrated ability to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across complex, multi-layer software architectures.
Preferred Qualifications
- ★ Hands-on development experience combining React with Java and Spring Boot.
- ★ Experience building, deploying, or supporting cloud applications within Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- ★ Exposure to automated build systems, continuous deployment tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
- ★ Familiarity with containerization and DevSecOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Terraform.
- ★ Experience with automated testing suites and direct collaboration with Quality Engineering teams.
- ★ Knowledge of federal security and compliance frameworks, including FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST SP 800-53 guidelines.
- ★ Practical familiarity with Section 508 digital accessibility standards.
- ★ Previous software development experience supporting federal agencies, specifically DHS or USCIS.
- ★ Active or previous U.S. government Public Trust security clearance.
- ★ Technical certifications in AWS, Java, Cloud Architecture, or DevOps practices.
Work Environment and Expectations
