Job Overview
- SM Software Solutions Inc. is seeking senior-level Full Stack Developers to support service innovation, digital transformation, and program review initiatives for the Government of Alberta. Working within cross-functional product delivery and review teams, successful candidates will contribute to end-to-end technical solutions spanning user research, architectural design, software development, automated testing, and cloud deployments.
- In this contract role, developers will work across modern application stacks—including frontend JavaScript frameworks (such as Angular, React, or Vue.js), backend frameworks (.NET Core, Node.js, or Django), relational and non-relational databases, and CI/CD pipelines. The position demands technical leadership in Agile environments to build reusable software components, refactor legacy infrastructure into modern digital services, and ensure robust solution delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Participate in initial project discovery and field research, including leading technical assessments and drafting architectural diagrams.
- ★ Formulate comprehensive technical designs and develop functional features for exemplar software initiatives.
- ★ Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve functional and non-functional defects across the application stack.
- ★ Improve software maintainability by refining code quality, developer tooling, and technical documentation.
- ★ Partner with frontend user experience designers to maintain a consistent visual identity and accessible user interface.
- ★ Provide technical guidance and implementation estimates to product owners to support frequent deployment cycles.
- ★ Assist with solution launches and deployment procedures for both limited and general availability releases.
- ★ Build modular, reusable software components and shared platform capabilities across delivery teams.
- ★ Onboard incoming technical team members and facilitate continuous knowledge transfer across projects.
- ★ Implement and improve team development standards, quality assurance processes, and code review routines.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ At least 5 years of professional experience using version control tools, specifically Git, in collaborative team settings.
- ★ Minimum 3 years of experience executing automated unit testing and integration testing frameworks.
- ★ At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with relational databases and alternative data storage systems.
- ★ Minimum 5 years of experience serving as a Full Stack Developer on complex software solutions within Agile environments.
- ★ At least 3 years of experience building and supporting production applications using modern application frameworks and frontend JavaScript frameworks.
Desirable Skills and Assets
- ★ Minimum 2 years of experience incrementally modernizing legacy systems into digital services across multiple releases.
- ★ At least 1 year of experience leveraging generative AI and agentic tools for prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and workflow automation.
- ★ Minimum 2 years of experience working with specific stack technologies, including Angular, React, Vue.js, C# .NET Core, Node.js (NestJS, Express), or Python (Django).
- ★ At least 2 years of experience applying software design patterns and architectural principles to complex systems.
- ★ Minimum 2 years of familiarity with Government of Alberta development guidelines, standards, and principles.
- ★ At least 2 years of practical experience implementing and operating CI/CD pipelines.
- ★ Minimum 2 years of experience collaborating in cross-functional teams alongside UX designers, service designers, or human-centered design practitioners.
Contract Terms and Schedule
- ★ Expected initial contract term is one year (252 business days), running from February 11, 2026, to January 11, 2027.
- ★ Includes an extension option for up to an additional 24 months under identical terms and conditions.
- ★ Standard work schedule consists of 7.25 hours per day on a full-time basis across assigned projects.
- ★ Up to fifteen (15) Full Stack Developers are required for these multi-project initiatives.
