Job Overview
- Meta is at the forefront of engineering hardware technologies that transform digital interaction, including virtual and augmented reality devices. Within Meta's hardware organization, the Design For Excellence (DFX) team serves as a fundamental pillar to ensure innovative hardware concepts move efficiently from design intent into scalable, high-quality, and cost-effective production.
- As a DFX Engineering Intern, candidates will lead a designated manufacturing engineering project under the direct guidance of an experienced DFX mentor. Interns gain practical exposure across the entire hardware new product introduction (NPI) lifecycle, collaborating with Hardware Engineering, Quality, and Test Engineering teams alongside external manufacturing partners. This internship offers hands-on experience evaluating assembly processes, performing GD&T studies, analyzing production metrics, and delivering manufacturing process improvements for next-generation hardware platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Support the creation and qualification of manufacturing assembly workflows, specialized fixtures, and tooling equipment.
- ★ Conduct GD&T evaluations and tolerance stack-up analyses on part drawings and multi-component assemblies with mentor guidance.
- ★ Gather and evaluate manufacturing operational data, including cycle times, line yields, and defect failure modes, to aid in technical failure analysis.
- ★ Research and test novel or refined manufacturing processes to enhance device quality, assembly precision, and overall production throughput.
- ★ Summarize and present project findings, technical outcomes, and process recommendations to DFX team members and cross-functional leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ Active enrollment in or completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- ★ Demonstrated academic coursework or project experience focused on mechanical design, manufacturing operations, or design for manufacturability (DFM).
- ★ Foundational knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and tolerance analysis methods.
- ★ Hands-on proficiency using 3D CAD modeling software, with a preference for Siemens NX or PTC Creo (SolidWorks or CATIA experience is also accepted).
- ★ Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- ★ Previous internship or co-op experience within product development, new product introduction (NPI), or manufacturing engineering environments.
- ★ Experience utilizing data analysis tools or scripting languages to process manufacturing or test data sets.
- ★ Familiarity with precision hardware assembly procedures, automated manufacturing equipment, or inline quality inspection tools.
- ★ Prior exposure to advanced joining and assembly techniques such as adhesives, hot bar thermal bonding, or laser soldering/jetting.
- ★ Academic coursework or professional interest in AI-enabled smart factory systems and automated manufacturing operations.
What the Company Offers
- ★ Monthly base compensation range between $6,688 USD and $11,880 USD, determined by location, skills, and experience.
- ★ Comprehensive employee benefits package provided by Meta.
Application Tips
- Applicants may want to highlight specific hands-on CAD projects, mechanical design work, or manufacturing lab experience in their resume. Emphasizing familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles can demonstrate strong technical preparation. If candidates have prior co-op experience, data analysis capabilities, or exposure to precision assembly equipment, detailing these achievements alongside clear examples of team communication can help showcase well-rounded engineering skills.
Prepare for Your Interview
- These suggested questions can help you prepare for an interview by focusing on the skills, responsibilities, and technical areas relevant to this role.
Suggested Interview Questions
