Job OverviewNatureServe, a non-profit organization that has served as a leading authority on North American biodiversity data for five decades, is seeking a Business Development Research Intern. Operating fully remotely on a part-time basis, this position collaborates directly with the Director of Biodiversity Data Sales to expand the reach of the organization's environmental data solutions. The intern will conduct structured market research to identify target organizations, evaluate corporate structures, and pinpoint key decision-makers across private, governmental, and non-profit sectors. This opportunity provides practical experience in market research, lead generation, and business development within the environmental and geospatial data industry. It is ideal for current undergraduate or graduate students, as well as recent graduates in environmental science
Key Responsibilities
- ★ Research and pinpoint potential corporate, non-profit, and government partners matching NatureServe's strategic priorities.
- ★ Analyze target company websites and public documentation to map organizational structures and identify appropriate business units.
- ★ Identify and select 2 to 3 qualified decision-makers per organization who oversee relevant product lines or purchasing decisions.
- ★ Validate professional details, employment status, job titles, and business units using LinkedIn and reliable public sources.
- ★ Verify corporate email addresses using dedicated verification tools while flagging unconfirmed contacts.
- ★ Maintain structured records in shared tracking sheets and Salesforce, detailing contact information, verification status, and relevant notes.
- ★ Categorize leads according to priority attributes such as industry sector, geographic location, and funding capacity.
- ★ Compile prospective partner research and briefing materials to support sales outreach and stakeholder meetings.
- ★ Track lead generation progress, record outreach activities, and assist with general pipeline administration.
- ★ Participate in weekly sync meetings to review completed research lists and refine lead identification criteria.
- ★ Review and flag outdated or inaccurate lead data within the CRM system for correction.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ★ Strong research and data-gathering abilities utilizing company websites, LinkedIn, and public records.
- ★ High level of detail orientation and precision in administrative data entry tasks.
- ★ Effective written communication skills.
- ★ Self-motivated with proven time-management capabilities in a fully remote work setting.
- ★ Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications, and a readiness to learn CRM tools.
- ★ Demonstrated interest in biodiversity, environmental data, sustainability, GIS, or related disciplines.
- ★ Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or recent graduation in environmental science, data analysis, GIS, sustainability, business, or a related field.
- ★ Genuine interest in how data and technological applications address environmental challenges.
