Switch Communications is seeking a Backend Development Executive specializing in Java to join its technical engineering team on-site in Islamabad. ◯ Construct, architect, and maintain backend microservices and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot for charging, provisioning, and subscriber-management platforms.
◯ Build and optimize data reporting pipelines and scheduled batch jobs that transform data from large-scale MySQL and MariaDB tables containing hundreds of millions of rows.
◯ Write, maintain, and run Python scripts to handle data extraction, transformation, ad-hoc analysis, and automation of routine reporting processes.
◯ Diagnose and resolve database query performance issues, un-indexable (non-sargable) statements, missing indexes, and schema redundancies across reporting databases.
◯ Process structured and semi-structured data sources while contributing to database schema cleanup and consolidation projects.
◯ Integrate backend services with message brokers such as Kafka, caching layers such as Redis, and internal or external API integrations.
◯ Collaborate with DevOps, frontend, and data engineering teams to release well-tested features while clearly documenting system behavior, data flows, and known issues.

◯ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
◯ 0 to 2 years of practical experience with Java and Spring Boot (substantial academic projects, personal builds, or internships are accepted).
◯ Practical working knowledge of Python for scripting, data handling, or automation workflows (such as using Pandas or basic ETL processes).
◯ Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL), including SQL joins, indexing, and query performance optimization.
◯ Foundational understanding of REST API design principles and backend architectural patterns.
◯ Experience with Git version control systems and standard code maintenance workflows.
◯ Strong analytical skills and comfort working with large, complex datasets.

◯ Prior exposure to message queues or caching mechanisms such as Apache Kafka or Redis.
◯ Experience using data reporting libraries or BI tools such as Apache POI, openpyxl, or Power BI.
◯ Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL pipeline design principles.
◯ Background or exposure to high-volume transactional industries such as telecommunications or fintech.
◯ Basic working knowledge of Docker containers and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
