Job Overview
- An opportunity is available for an Associate Software Engineer to join enGen as an integral member of an agile software engineering team. In this full-time remote role, the engineer will contribute to the design, building, and execution of scalable digital software applications that serve enterprise customers. The position involves participating in every stage of the application build process, from idea generation and technical design to writing clean code and conducting peer code reviews.
- Working closely within a scrum framework, the engineer will collaborate on user story estimation, task management in tools such as Jira or RTC, and sprint delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- ▪ Design and draft technical engineering specifications for software programs and digital applications.
- ▪ Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code adhering strictly to established team coding standards.
- ▪ Conduct peer code reviews to maintain code quality, system reliability, and best architectural practices.
- ▪ Propose technical solutions and contribute innovative ideas that support platform functionality, scalability, and performance.
- ▪ Participate actively in all agile and scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, estimations, and daily stand-ups.
- ▪ Assist with story creation, defining Definition of Done (DoD) criteria, and managing task updates in tracking tools like Jira or RTC.
- ▪ Monitor personal progress against production timelines and communicate technical impediments promptly to the Scrum Master.
- ▪ Collaborate with senior and principal engineers to deliver software increments and resolve complex technical blockers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- ▪ Must be a United States Citizen to fulfill mandatory contractual and system access requirements.
- ▪ Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- ▪ At least 1 year of proficiency in algorithm design, data structures, and software design patterns for scalable, highly available systems.
- ▪ At least 1 year of experience in at least one modern programming language (such as Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, or Informatica).
- ▪ At least 1 year of experience utilizing at least two of the following technologies: React, Angular (v4+), Node.js, NoSQL databases, HTML5, CSS, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- ▪ At least 1 year of demonstrated understanding of web services and protocols, including REST, HTTPS, and JSON.
- ▪ Practical understanding of agile software development methodologies and the Scrum framework.
- ▪ Knowledge of software lifecycle best practices, including version control, unit testing, peer code reviews, and build processes.
- ▪ Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages, frameworks, and tools as required by project needs.
- ▪ Willingness to travel between 0% and 25% as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- ▪ Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
- ▪ 3 or more years of experience with general-purpose programming languages such as Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective-C, JavaScript, or Go.
- ▪ Experience defining system architectures, evaluating technical trade-offs, and developing software applications within the healthcare industry.
- ▪ Experience converting design wireframes, user stories, and prototypes into working software applications.
- ▪ Familiarity with legacy systems including IBM Mainframe, COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- ▪ Familiarity with Generative AI tools, Visual Studio Code IDE, and ethical AI utilization practices.
Application Tips
- Applicants may want to highlight their hands-on experience with modern programming languages (such as Java, Python, or JavaScript) and web service architecture (REST, JSON, HTTPS) in their resume. Demonstrating experience with agile/scrum frameworks, code review practices, and version control tools in past projects or internships will clearly display technical readiness. In your application materials, consider emphasizing any exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), frontend frameworks (React or Angular), or database systems (NoSQL). Furthermore, ensuring that your US citizenship status is clearly noted will help streamline the initial compliance review.
